7 Postcard & Flyer Ideas for Miami
In an age of glowing screens, paper endures. Seven ways Miami businesses use postcards and flyers to be seen, remembered and called.
Of paper, and its peculiar power
It is a curious fact, and one that I have never ceased to ponder, that in an age when every man carries a glowing window in his hand, the humblest scrap of printed paper should still command attention. Yet so it is. The screen is a river, and whatever floats upon it is carried swiftly off; but paper, once placed in the palm, abides. Hence the enduring usefulness, to every Miami enterprise, of the printed postcard and the flyer. Here, in seven particulars, is the manner of their use.
Seven ways to use postcards and flyers
1. Announce the grand opening. Let a postcard go forth to the neighborhood, and say plainly that a new door stands open. 2. Mail by neighborhood. Direct mail postcards, including USPS Every Door Direct Mail, reach every door along a chosen route, from Kendall to Miami Beach.
3. Offer a coupon. Restaurants, salons and car washes know well that a limited offer, printed upon a 4x6 postcard, quickens the most languid trade.
Choosing the size of one's postcard
The 4x6 is the modest workhorse: cheapest to print, and kindest to the postage bill. The 5x7 and the 6x8 afford room for a photograph and a plain offer, while the broad 8x10 is a billboard that fits in the hand. Whatever the dimension, print in full color on both sides, upon sturdy 16pt stock.
4. Promote the event. Art walks, concerts, fundraisers and pop-ups live and die by the flyer on the counter; print the date, the place and the hour in letters legible across a crowded room. 5. Go just listed. Real estate agents mail just-listed and just-sold postcards to establish their presence in a neighborhood. 6. Thank the customer. Slip a postcard into every package, bearing a request for a review, an offer for the next order and thy telephone number, for gratitude, when printed, becomes a kind of promise. 7. Stock the counter. Leave menus, service flyers and rate sheets in partner shops, in two languages.
Flyers: the quiet ambassadors
Where the postcard travels by post, the flyer travels by hand. Pin it to the community board of a Little Havana bakery; leave a stack at the Coral Gables coffee counter; slide one into every shopping bag. Print on bright, glossy stock, write a headline that may be read across the street, and add a QR code, that the curious may follow the trail to thy website or menu.
